Small Sources 12. This rent roll lists 25 tenants on the Kildare estate of William Tighe in 1825-26. The estate is in the parish of Kilteel, Co. Kildare but no further information is provided as to which townlands they occupied. William Tighe lived in Woodstock, Co. Wicklow and had estates in several counties. This was one of his smaller land-holdings. The original rental is in the National Library of Ireland Ms. 872. Rentals are the records of the landlord on tenants, their holdings, and their payments. Although these might appear to be purely business records, many contain rich family information. A full description of rental formats and practices, and on the useful family information they can provide is in our blog Rentals as a resource for Irish family history.
The names include some that are common in Kildare including: Kelly and Cleary There are also some very rare names such as Buggle, Goslin and Slevin. It lists 6,500 books and articles written about specific Irish families. It provides access to a wealth of published information on about 2,500 Irish families.
